People ask me all the time, “What does Mikrokosmos mean?” “How do you even say it?” So, I thought, why not share the story behind this quirky, not-so-easy-to-pronounce name?
When I started my business, all the *sensible* advice was to pick a name that was easy to say, easy to remember, and *totally* relevant. Naturally, I went ahead and chose something that’s, well… none of those things! 😆
But, here’s why I love it.
It all started in 2020 when my Instagram algorithm decided to throw a little curveball. Every day , my feed was full of these clips and photos of a young Korean band called BTS. I hadn’t searched for them, hadn’t heard much about them, and yet, there they were. Over and over. I thought, “Why is this Korean boy band all over my feed?!”
Finally, curiosity got the better of me, and I thought, *Alright, Instagram, you win. Let’s see what this is all about.* And that, friends, was the beginning of my BTS obsession. By the way I don’t just dabble when I’m interested in something; I go *all in*. (We’re talking deep dive kids!)
Soon, it wasn’t just BTS; I found myself exploring Korean food, binging on K-Dramas, and even taking a crack at learning the language (which, let me tell you, is a *challenge*). I watched every video, movie, live stream—whatever they shared, I was there! I can now also make a pretty mean Bibimbap and Tteokbokki!
And yes, my family noticed. I’m pretty sure my kids have called out, “Dad! Mum’s watching her Korean boyfriends again!” more times than I’d like to admit! 😅
When it came time to name my business, every sparkly, dazzling idea I had was already taken. Nothing seemed quite right until that magical moment on Spotify: my year-end wrap-up. (Anyone else obsessed with these?) There it was, my most-played song: **Mikrokosmos** by BTS. I had listened to it 365 times that year. *There* was my name—unique, meaningful, and so very me.
The opening lyrics of Mikrokosmos say it all:
> "Twinkling starlight
> Building with blinking light
> We’re shining brightly
> In our own rooms, in our own stars…”
The song reminds us that each of us, with our little lights, is part of something larger and more beautiful. The name "Mikrokosmos" is a nod to "microcosm," meaning a small world that mirrors something much bigger.
And that’s exactly what I hope to create with my business—a small but vibrant world of beauty, meaning, and a whole lot of sparkle. 🌟
